El próximo 26 de septiembre se celebra el Día Europeo de las Lenguas, una ocasión para honrar la riqueza cultural y lingüística que nos une. Este año, la fiesta tendrá lugar en la Multilingual Library, ubicada en 11 High West Street (antiguamente el Gloucester Pub), Gateshead NE8 1EJ, justo frente al registro civil del Civic Centre (multilinguallibrary.org.uk).
La idea es sencilla y cálida: reunir a personas de distintos países para compartir no solo idiomas, sino también sabores. Yo me encargaré de preparar una deliciosa paella de pollo, mientras otro participante llevará tortilla de patatas, habrá bebidas y, seguro, muchas otras delicias representando rincones de Europa.
Lo mejor es que el evento es gratuito. Cada persona puede, si quiere, traer algo para compartir, pero no es obligatorio: lo más importante es venir con ganas de disfrutar, aprender y celebrar juntos.
Más allá de la cocina, lo que realmente me emociona es el intercambio lingüístico y humano. Poder conversar en diferentes idiomas, descubrir expresiones nuevas y sentirnos parte de una comunidad diversa y acogedora.

On 26th September, we celebrate the European Day of Languages, a special occasion to honour the cultural and linguistic diversity that unites us. This year, the party will take place at the Multilingual Library, located at 11 High West Street (formerly the Gloucester Pub), Gateshead NE8 1EJ, right opposite the Civic Centre Registry Office (multilinguallibrary.org.uk).
The idea is simple yet heart-warming: bringing together people from different countries to share not only languages, but also flavours. I’ll be cooking a delicious chicken paella, another participant will bring a Spanish omelette, there will be drinks, and surely many other treats representing different corners of Europe.
The best part is that the event is free. Everyone is welcome to bring something if they can, but it’s absolutely not required — the most important thing is to come along, enjoy, learn and celebrate together.
Beyond the food, what excites me most is the chance to exchange languages and cultures. To chat in different tongues, discover new expressions, and feel part of a diverse and welcoming community.
