✨ Teaching Reflexive Verbs in Spanish… with Songs, Stories, and Pixar-Style Fun!

In my latest Spanish lesson for kids, I created a special PowerPoint to teach one of the most important (and surprisingly fun!) grammar topics: reflexive verbs.

💡 But instead of just giving grammar rules… I brought it to life with stories, songs, Pixar-style illustrations, and even scenes from Disney movies!

🎯 What’s in the presentation?

🔹 A clear, kid-friendly explanation of what reflexive verbs are (in both Spanish and English)
🔹 A simple chart of reflexive pronouns with examples
🔹 Fun comparisons like:

  • Yo me lavo / Yo lavo el coche
  • Yo me peino / Yo peino a mi hermana
🔹 Common mistakes kids make (like “yo me cocino”) are shown with humor and funny images!

🎶 Includes songs and interactive activities!

  • I wrote a short children’s song about daily routine with reflexive verbs:
“Yo me despierto, yo me levanto, me lavo la cara…”
  • Kids sing along, dance, and fill in the blanks with “me,” “te,” “se.”
  • We also watched short clips from Disney movies like Encanto and The Incredibles to identify reflexive actions.

👴👦 Two real-life stories to compare:

To help students really understand the difference between reflexive and non-reflexive verbs, I created two fun stories:

  1. David in a care home, helping Mr. Antonio (I wash him / He washes himself).
  2. David at a daycare, helping little Mateo (I comb his hair / He combs his own hair).

Students figure out who does the action and to whom, making it easier to grasp reflexive verbs.

🎨 What about the visuals?

Every slide includes colorful visuals, emojis, cartoon drawings, and Pixar-style illustrations. It’s designed to be visually engaging and easy to follow for kids.

🧠 What do students learn?

  • How to identify reflexive verbs in context
  • How to use the correct pronouns: me, te, se, nos, os, se
  • How to avoid typical mistakes
  • How to talk about their daily routine with more confidence
